When there is an existing SCADA
master station in operation, and an operator at some other location wants to know what is being
reported at the SCADA master, historically the operator would have to contact
someone at the master station and ask them what the master station was
reporting. In order to avoid the
need for that operator to contact people at the master,
DrSCADA provides simple eavesdrop workstations. The illustration demonstrates this simple and effective
application.
An eavesdrop workstation for a SCADA
master allows an operator (who is not located at the master station but does have access to the SCADA
communication circuit) to know what is happening across the entire SCADA
system, instead of only at his location. An eavesdrop workstation monitors the
polls from the master station, and the responses from the RTUs, and can then
display that information as if it were a workstation at the host location.
